12/30/12
Will this be my last time clock?
I had to take a self-portrait, punching out for the last time —
at least at this time clock.
???
I just wrote this on Facebook:
Today is MY LAST DAY working for NWA (Delta) Airlines. I started in January of 1979, and have worked at Anchorage International since 1980.
Delta decided to outsource our jobs to $10-an-hour people (minimum wage is $7.75 in Alaska). It kind of hurts, but I have important things to do that I can now fully concentrate on (at least for now).
Emotional day. This will be a big change.
My main goals are to help get the revival going and make it as a photographer (not an easy task these days, but especially if ‘ONE’ happens I have a good shot at it). I do plan on staying in Anchorage.
I’ll be able to seek God more easily, and perhaps write my first book, with the “Let Us Be ONE” prophecy as the theme:
“Let Us Be ONE” (A Prophecy — 2001-02, 2008)
And I’d like to now finally do some YouTube teaching videos to help get this thing rolling. It’s way out of my comfort zone, but I have no choice. Maybe more people will listen to my prophecy than read it, for example. And I would like to cover some important topics like lust, who goes to heaven, praying in tongues to be free.
And speaking of FREEDOM, I plan on being more diligent in praying forgiving prayers as often as necessary.
THANKS for all of your prayers, encouragement and INTERACTIONS!!! I can really use your prayers. There is so much to do. I’ll need all of my cylinders firing. I’m even joining a health club.
And as always, I’m open to suggestions.
I’ll probably ball like crazy as I drive away this morning — to start a new day : )
May God bless you all as you do what you believe you should to help bring life into this increasingly barren land.
I feel like the timing is perfect for this to happen. it’s kind of the perfect storm in a good way. And I actually had a dream about a decade ago which I told a prophetic friend, who also has tried to get ‘ONE’ happening, and helped inspire me many years ago. He felt God was telling me to retire at the age I now am, to then make it as a photographer. I had forgotten all about that, but now it makes sense. But there is so much work to do if I’m going to be able to make it doing part of what I love.
I’ll probably ball like crazy as I drive away this morning —
to start a new day : )
Power to the peaceful!
May ‘ONE’ soon happen — Jesus’ heart-cry for us in John 17 — as we abide in Him, finally ‘ONE’ with each other — “that the world will know” — and I’ll be a happy camper.
I wish I had a camper, by the way. Maybe someday.

My photos of the group in our 4-day Mountain Light Autumn in Wine Country workshop, taught by Elizabeth Carmel and Jerry Dodrill, 11/29-12/2, 2012 — Day 2.
I had a wonderful time, despite the extreme weather. Some said it was the worst storm in 30 years — about 10 inches of rain in 3 days!
NOTE: I don’t have any photos of the group from day one. It was raining too hard. I should have taken a photo of Allyn’s tripod umbrella holder, though.

I concluded that the chairs at our conference room at Mount View Hotel (in Calistoga) were the perfect ergonomic design for posture and comfort in a straight back, wood chair. The large gap at the bottom of the back allowed the glutes to sit back so the lumbar support fit perfectly. The tilt also seems to be ideal. So I just had to photograph it. This is my new standard reference….

A friend posted this TruNews (Rick Wiles) audio clip on my Facebook timeline:
Wednesday November 7 [day after the election], 2012
Guests: Steve Quayle, Augusto Perez & Jim Haddock
Topic : New assignments for the watchman
I responded:
So many people are bummed about this election. I’m not, because I knew America was going down with either Obama or Romney. They would both do their globalist handlers’ bidding. The Republican party has been jacked. And in 2008, I had a prophecy that it was already too late to reverse what’s coming.
The change with this election is that the PEOPLE will finally LOOK TO GOD INSTEAD OF MAN now, which is great news for me! Now, hopefully the people will finally be interested in getting ‘ONE’ happening — so we can be filled with the Holy Spirit no matter what happens.
My 2008 prophecy is actually very positive, because most aren’t right with one another to be able to go to heaven. And once ‘ONE’ happens, the JOY OF THE LORD will be our strength!

My attempt to shoot the aurora with a pocket camera,
laying flat on my back with the camera pointed straight up,
hand-held — thus the blurry stars.
Seeing this in person was far more AWESOME than what I captured here.
Huge donut shaped portions of the lights were pulsing
a bit faster than 1 beat per second.
I was left in tremendous awe of God:
“Lord, what would you have me to do?
With You with me I never need be afraid!”
I’ll say more later, but I changed my cargo photos category back to Cargo’s Last Stand, which had temporarily been NWA > Delta Cargo.
I originally called it Cargo’s Last Stand to document NWA’s parking all of the 747 freighters, and then changed it to something more positive when Delta took over and we just handled passenger aircraft cargo.
We just found out this morning that Delta (who bought NWA) will now outsource our cargo operation here in Anchorage, starting 1/1/13.
Leah just said on Facebook that our cargo building was put into operation by NWA in 1969:
I believe 1969 and was expanded in 1972 to what is now occupied by LSG [flight kitchen] and ELS [plant maintenance].
I started working in Anchorage in 1980, and did a shift in this same air freight building in 1981.
All of the Cargo’s Last Stand photos are still posted. Just click the category in the Categories menu on the right. There are currently 35 pages of posts.

I’ve been humming this AWESOME song by CREED a lot, recently, fom their 2009 album, ‘Full Circle’:

Does the song you sing KEEP ECHOING?
Inspire us to sing the song you sing

In Anchorage, last Thursday night we had an amazing, GLORIOUS light show! The entire sky to the west, north and east was filled with glorious lights — including overhead! I witnessed this personally, and am even more in awe of God — ‘what would You have me to do?’
I saw an aurora in Anchorage about 20 years ago that was directly overhead, which I’ll never forget. I have said it was like God coming his hair. But this one had so much energy. What blew me away were huge donut shaped pulses almost directly overhead (slightly to the west and north of overhead) that looked like they were slamming down this amazing energy on me, more than one pulse per second. Selah.
And we can expect more gorgeous displays this winter. BUT our power grid and electronics are not EMP protected (explained in the links below), because Congress won’t act to protect our country for just the cost of one stealth bomber.
So hopefully we won’t get a northern lights show that is too wonderful, like has happened in the past, before we had delicate electronics.

Special thanks to Elder Myrtle Vandorn, Southcentral Foundation’s Kim Aspelund, Mayor Lester Lunceford/City of Whittier, Cook Inlet Housing Authority and the State of Alaska Division of Public Health!
One of my former NWA bosses, Curt Jensen, took this wonderful historic shot a few decades ago, and has now posted it on Facebook. Thanks, Curt!
The DC-10 and 747 (international flight) passenger aircraft are parked at the end of the B-concourse at Anchorage International airport.
And in the background, behind the then-tiny control tower, is a Northwest Airlines red tail, 747 cargo freighter parked at our cargo warehouse with the nose open for nose loading. This was long before the transload days, when three freighters were parked side-by-side at one time.
The airport has since been remodeled. I now spend most of my time at the cargo facility, but bring freight to and from the Delta passenger planes that still park in this oft-windy location, where we also unload some of the bags and the freight. We also pick up and drop off the mail.
A Western Airlines airplane can be seen behind the B-concourse.

Well, I went for a walk around our neighborhood a few hours ago with my RX100. I’m documenting the power outage in our neighborhood at 4am while getting some exercise.
This time I took photos of the ‘Holiday’ gas station on the corner. It actually warmed my heart when they put it up a few years ago, having grown up in Bloomington, Minnesota, which I think is the home of Holiday stores and gas stations.
The station on the corner had this really nice looking green, chalet style roof too.
But then they put up this neon sign which sold garbage soft drinks, etc.. They ruined the corner with that gaudy, low-life neon sign. Today, the neon sign is dark, and I captured this historic moment with the amazing Sony RX100.
Holiday, please take down the neon signs, selling poison-drinks to people. They don’t belong in a residential area. Thank you.
Our 2-block by 3-block area is pitch black, surrounded by houses and streetlights that have power. Hopefully, it won’t be much longer (it’s been 32 hours), but who knows. There is no sign of the repair crews anywhere. Maybe we’re at the bottom of the totem pole in their priority list.
Maybe the transformer that was blown is flying up on a freighter from the lower 48.
Could be much worse … way worse.
Good wake up call / reality check : )
I’m so glad William Neill reposted his amazing story behind his most iconic photo! It’s his favorite, and has inspired me!
It was so dark that William couldn’t see the vivid colors (the human eye using rods instead of the cones), so he didn’t know what he had captured until after the film was developed, before the digital age had begun!

Today, I had a request from my long-time friend and master photographer Michael Frye to post the essay in which I tell the story of making my favorite image, Dawn, Lake Louise, Banff National Park, Canada 1995. Here it is as sent to Outdoor Photographer for first my On Landscape column in 1997. For more of my essays, see the OP site here.
…………..
Rising very early on a summer morning, I hoped for a dramatic and brilliant sunrise on Lake Louise and the glaciers above. Perhaps it was the two weeks of photographing in rainy conditions that biased my hopes! I waited patiently for sunrise, but my preconceived vision failed to appear as persistent clouds shrouded the mountains. It was a silent and mysterious dawn. I simply sat and soaked in the scene. Finally, I made two exposures, but expected little. I completely forgot about this session during the rest of my trip. When I saw the film after returning, I was amazed. I had to think hard about when and where I had made this photograph. Unconsciously, but facilitated by my experience and instinct, the power and magic of that landscape, at that moment, had come through on film.
The Lake Louise photograph was made with my 4×5 view camera and a 150mm lens. Due to the use of slow film, small aperture and low light, the exposure was about two minutes long. Of the two exposures I made, one was horizontal, the other vertical. …

I wrote this comment in our newspaper online, last night, in response to the hit piece on the human body exhibit at the Alaska State Fair, which I had just seen.
“I was AWESTRUCK by how wonderfully Jesus created our bodies. I was almost in tears at times, having never seen how intricate and complex our bodies really are. I also now understand better how my own muscles, ligaments and tendons work together. It was just amazing, and the glory should be fully given to God! Why would anyone want to rob this experience from anyone? The smell was oil based paint. I spoke with one of the painters who painted the pipes and the ceiling overhead. So you’ll make a retraction for your error on the smell, right, Juli[a]?”
She had claimed the smell was from the bodies. I don’t see a retraction. Our newspaper has a monopoly, and is owned by a huge media corporation, McClatchy. I don’t think they care much about fair play and the truth. They almost completely ignored Ron Paul, for example.
Also, it’s been awhile since I’ve commented, so I had to re-register. I tried to use my real name, but their software wouldn’t let me. Not sure why not, but my NOHATE license plate can be seen.

I wasn’t expecting to be queasy as I walked through the “Our Body: Live Healthy” exhibit of preserved human remains at the Alaska State Fair last week. I’m not squeamish, but the pelt of human skin was a little much. And the eyebrows left on the skinless faces. And the strange chemical smell. All of that might have been OK in another environment, say a museum or a lab. But there is just something off about touring a room full of dissected human bodies at a fair, between Ferris wheel rides and visits to the pork-chop-on-a-stick stand.
Promoters say Our Body is all about science and health. But as I went through the exhibit, which links obvious health messages like “smoking damages lungs” to displays of dissected cadavers injected with plastic polymers, I couldn’t shake the feeling that what was going on was more like a macabre spectacle, like a circus freak show. Were viewers learning something? Maybe. Very little of the health information came as a surprise to me. It functioned more as a way to justify morbid curiosity.

I just got a dream about US torturing. While sleeping, I heard very clearly these words:
“Why torture me? Why does the criminal government of America torture me?”
Then, for about an hour, I got all kinds of prayers for those involved, especially those who insist we vote for Presidential candidates who will continue the torture that was escalated during the Bush/Cheney regime. And I prayed for those who insist people don’t vote for Ron Paul, the “Jesus’ Golden Rule” candidate.
And then I heard, awake this time: “The first thing to repent of is First Love.”
Which I assume involves the Greatest Commandment, not loving the Lord, our God with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength — so then we don’t do the Second Greatest Commandment either: love our neighbors as ourselves. To many are following the crowd instead of the HOLY Spirit.
Then I heard: “Give to me your pride.”
“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” (Proverbs 16:18). Regardless of what our country is doing, please, let’s be holy and not participate in this madness that is destroying our country as we illegally and immorally hurt others.
In the first statement I heard, tonight, God actually calls our government a “criminal government.” I thought of how both Bush and Cheney won’t fly to certain countries now, afraid of being arrested for war crimes against humanity, but evangelicals are still voting for the same type of leaders.
Let’s be holy – Jeff

Uploaded by DeGarmoAndKeyForever on May 21, 2011
I wrote this, today, on my Facebook page.
For those interested, the 5D3 (5D Mark III) is close to the ultimate camera for making big prints and shooting in low light, etc. and etc.. The big pixels in this big sensor are great for the ultimate image quality in low light, and for pulling out shadow detail. But a full-frame (35mm) sensor camera is fairly big and heavy, especially because the lenses have to be bigger and heavier. It’s not a practical camera for the average, even-serious shooter, and it’s really not fun to carry around doing street shooting.
For really fun and more flexible shooting, I think it’s hard to beat the cameras I talk about below. I just wrote this to help one of my Facebook friends decide which camera to get. He was talking about getting an SLR, but I suggested this instead. And the compact camera I talk about at the end, the Fuji F770EXR / F775EXR is probably going to be phenomenal, zooming from a really useful wide angle 25mm (FOV equivalent) to a bird-shooting 500mm, super telephoto http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/f/finepix_f770exr
It’s not quite out yet. I’m also waiting to see if the lens is sharp enough for what I would use it for. I try to have a compact camera with me at all times. This could be a winner!
But first, the advantages of micro-4/3rds mirrorless cameras for serious and fun shooting:
I would probably recommend Olympus micro-4/3rds sensor cameras. They are amazing, and more compact and portable than the Canon Rebel, for example. There are also many lens options from fisheye and super wide angle to super telephoto, and everything is small and lightweight for traveling around the world with a world traveler like you.
Panasonic also makes M43 cameras, but they don’t have a stabilized sensor, so the lenses have to be stabilized. The wide angle lenses aren’t stabilized, which I think is still essential for use without a tripod.
Olympus just came out with the E-M5, which is top of the line, and a bit bigger and heavier than the E-P3 (and 2 even smaller models), which came out last August. But it’s still relatively small. You could go with that now, or wait until the E-P3 upgrade. We’re waiting for it to get the super-duper new sensor that the E-M5 has.
These are not SLRs, but the E-M5 has a digital viewfinder and an LCD screen. You’d probably be a very happy camper. The mirror box on SLRs require the lenses to be bigger, and the 4:3 format is more useful overall than the 3:2 of the Canon or Nikon SLRs. And it adds weight and size too.
And being that the sensor is smaller, the size of the lenses are smaller due to that too. My E-P3 with 4 incredible lenses fit in a small fanny pack and it only weighs 3 pounds, total, which is so nice! Most would carry less lenses, so the kit would be even smaller and lighter.
http://www.43rumors.com is a great site regarding what is currently happening in M43.
And http://www.four-thirds.org/en/microft/index.html is a great overview of M43. This site also has a great M43 lens chart with lens summaries.
M43 is an open system that different manufacturers make products for, which brings in competition and a big variety of lenses.
One thing to watch out for: micro-4/3rds is different than standard 4/3rds sensor cameras and lenses, which are generally much bigger. Make sure it says micro, or has the ‘M’ before the 4/3rds.
This is the perfect camera for taking quality photos, unless you need the ultimate in image quality. But then you’re talking bigger bucks and bigger gear that is much harder to hall around.
For the ultimate small camera that has just one lens, I’ve been looking at this Fuji F770EXR / F775EXR which will have a 25-500mm (FOV equivalent) zoom lens: http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/f/finepix_f770exr
I think this is going to rock and is supposed to be coming out really soon.
The Oly will be better in low light, and have slightly better image quality. And you can get fisheye and super-wide lenses for the Oly.
God bless!
Kicking demon butt — together!!!!!!!

The original Riverdance performance in Dublin has been such a thrill for me. Yesterday, a Facebook friend, David Hayes, shared with me an earlier version, for which he said: ”
