John Swinton on the independence of the press
Variations on the quote below have been misattributed as a response to a toast, by John Swinton, as “the former Chief of Staff at the New York Times“, before the New York Press Club in 1953. However, research reveals that Swinton (1829-1901), after moving to New York, wrote an occasional article for the New York Times and was hired on a regular basis in 1860 as head of the editorial staff. Afterward holding this position throughout the Civil War, he left the paper in 1870 and became active in the labor struggles of the day. He later served eight years in the same position on the New York Sun and later published a weekly labor sheet, John Swinton’s Paper.
The remarks were apparently made by Swinton, then the preeminent New York journalist, probably one night in 1880. Swinton was the guest of honour at a banquet given him by the leaders of his craft. Someone who knew neither the press nor Swinton offered a toast to the independent press. Swinton outraged his colleagues by replying….

Night 11 of the Aurora Hunt was The Night! Here’s an 8-minute video containing my 1st ever real-time aurora footage shot with the Sony A7s II mirrorless camera (with Nikkor 24mm/f1.4 lens). This is the ACTUAL SPEED the northern lights were dancing. I was on a 2-1/2 week aurora hunt which took me 750 road-tripping miles from my Anchorage home to the Brooks Range of Northern Alaska. November 1, 2015 was scary windy with snowdrifts forming on the Haul Road but the aurora explosions that filled the sky were fantastic! I’ve been aurora hunting for a living since 1997 and this blew me away. Hope you enjoy.

Then I truck camped a couple nights north of Wiseman along the Dietrich River (beautiful!). Drove up and over Atigun Pass and camped toward Galbraith Lake out by Toolik Field Station. That’s where the North Slope begins. I’ve driven the 100+ mile leg up to Prudhoe/Deahorse but not this time. I prefer the rough & rugged topography of the Brooks Range….although if you’re looking for caribou & muskox the Slope is good for that. When I start to run low on gas & camper propane I make my way back south and celebrate and top off my reserves in Coldfoot Camp. This truck stop is a lot more inviting when coming home than when you’re going up. …”

Great nature and art boost the immune system by lowering levels of chemicals that cause inflammation that can trigger diabetes, heart attacks and other illnesses.
In two separate experiments on more than 200 young adults reported on a given day the extent to which they had experienced such positive emotions as amusement, awe, compassion, contentment, joy, love and pride.
Samples of gum and cheek tissue – known as oral mucosal transudate – taken that same day showed those who experienced more of these – in particular wonder and amazement – had the lowest levels of the cytokine Interleukin 6 which is a marker of inflammation.
Psychologist Dr Dacher Keltner, of California University in Berkeley, said: “That awe, wonder and beauty promote healthier levels of cytokines suggests the things we do to experience these emotions – a walk in nature, losing oneself in music, beholding art – has a direct influence upon health and life expectancy.”
Cytokines are chemicals necessary for herding cells to the body’s battlegrounds to fight infection, disease and trauma but too many are linked with disorders like type-2 diabetes, heart disease, arthritis and even Alzheimer’s.

The sogginess thwarted my fall photography plans– arghh! The colors never popped. Except the sky was pristine blue, after having as many as 600+ fires in Alaska at one time, this summer.

The official September precipitation numbers are in! If you thought this month was rainier than normal in Anchorage, you’d be right. September 2015 is officially the wettest September on record for Anchorage. The new monthly record of 7.71″ replaces the previous record of 7.61″ that was set in 2004. The average September precipitation is 2.99″.
With an annual total of 15.01″, more than half of this year’s precipitation so far has fallen in September alone.
This is also the third wettest month in Anchorage since records began, with only August 1989 (9.77″) and August 1997 (8.37″) experiencing more precipitation.
This week’s storm dropped an official total of 2.8″ of snow at the airport. That accounts for all of this month’s snowfall and makes this September the fourth snowiest September on record.

A wet Tuesday in Anchorage marked the 12th day in a row that the city has seen measurable rainfall, with more precipitation on the way, according to the National Weather Service. The rain has pounded Alaska’s largest city and has already surpassed the monthly rainfall average for September — and is expected to continue for at least another week.
On average, the NWS says, Anchorage sees 2.99 inches of rain during the month of September.
“Now, (on Sept. 15) we’re at 3.27 inches and raining very hard,” National Weather Service meteorologist Joe Wegman said around 3 p.m. Tuesday.
This is the fourth consecutive year Anchorage has seen higher-than-average rainfall totals.

Pete Cowen, his swing coach, said players have individual patterns in their swings – whether you’re watching Jim Furyk and Adam Scott. And it is very difficult to change them. But you can instead give them more control over their particular pattern. You can not do more than that, because it basically is in their DNA. And half the work is to create an understanding of this.
According to Cowen, this development can mainly be attributed to Henrik himself had gained a better understanding of how the muscles to be used and controlled in the movement itself. – It’s that he’s got a better understanding of how the golf swing works. Both linear, rotationally and up and down. Getting together these three elements is difficult. It takes a while. But now he has the potential to do this pretty easily by controlling their muscles. The golf swing is more about control than your muscles to move the body. It is the muscles that move the mass. And therefore, your muscles must be used properly. You need to understand which muscles to do what to achieve control. And when Henry has understood this, it has been fairly easy to get to the rest. Has he some peculiar conditions been an asset in your work? – His physical strength is a huge asset. When this is you can match muscle movements thereafter. Is not the strength required otherwise much manipulation to compensate.
The core of the technical work has been shaped around different drills – ie exercises that simulate or enhance certain of pig’s motion sequences. Stenson and Cowen have avoided that tunnel vision on individual positions, but rather applied a holistic approach with the overall flow as a base. – Golf is not static, but dynamic. The game is three dimensional, while positions is only two dimensional. And you have to really be in control of the three-dimensional movement, which means to have control over the muscles.

Many like their “familiar spirits” — internal demons that are successfully leading many (including ‘Christians’) to rebel against God, instead of loving the Lord, our God, with ALL OF OUR HEART, soul, mind and strength, and our neighbors (including *our enemies*) as ourselves — Jesus’ Greatest Two Commandments.

On the 17th of November, the Session of St. Giles was called to his bedside. The parting words of the Reformer are too important to be absent here, so here they are:
“The time is approaching, for which I have long thirsted, wherein I shall be relieved and be free from all cares, and be with my Savior forever; and now, God is my witness, whom I have served with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that I have taught nothing but the true and solid doctrines of the gospel, and that end which I purposed in all my doctrine, was to instruct the ignorant, to confirm the weak, to comfort the consciences of those that were humbled under the sense of their sins, and to denounce the threatening of God’s Word against such as were rebellious. I am not ignorant, that, in my heart, I never hated the persons of those against whom I thundered God’s judgments; I did only hate their sins, and labored, according to my power, to gain them to Christ; that I did forbear none of whatsoever condition, I did it out of fear to my God, who placed me in this function of the ministry, and I know will bring me to an account.” After some words to the new pastor, he commended the whole Session to the grace of God.
I’m glad this deer TOTALLY gets FREE! My concern would be the deer would pull himself/herself away before the job was done. Looks like the deer was cut badly, trying to free him/herself.
I was thinking about this video this morning, while praying specifically for a number of people. Many are BOUND by actual demons, and praying in the Spirit for people can help FREE them.
And many wish (pray/James-3 curse) that people would be against people, which happens to me many times every day. When we pray for the bullies the people they have cursed get FREE!!! I believe this could be easily clinically proven someday.
I’ve been praying in the Spirit for people since the early ‘80s.
One of the great deceptions in these last days is the widespread ignoring of the effect that demons have on people, which is totally unlike what was taught and practiced in the New Testament. The result is that most Christians now have many demons in them, affecting them directly, even making people sick and lethargic, which I prove can happen here:

I believe that’s why Paul prayed in tongues more than anyone, to get FREE. He was a point man who was James-3 cursed a lot. This prophecy partially describes what’s going on and ways to get free:
Getting right with those we’ve hurt can FREE us from guilt and condemnation too. This is an important video in many ways. I’ve been pushing for a permanent Asbury to happen, ONE can happen, perhaps starting here in Anchorage, once key people get right with those they’ve hurt — especially one key person, who seems to be holding up this FREEDOM fest. I don’t know what he’s waiting for. I’d be scared to death to die with guilt on my conscience.
Jesus said we need to reconcile (Mt. 5 & Jn. 17). Paul did it (Acts 24:16):
“Herein I also practice *always* having a conscience void of offense toward God and men.” (Acts 24:16)
Our consciences must be clean when we see Jesus face to FACE!:

RAND PAUL
The junior senator from Kentucky is the son of Ron Paul, the most principled of the modern statesman. Sadly, however, the younger Paul seems to think he can get farther ahead than his father by playing up to the establishment and changing the Republican agenda to become more amenable to the growing benefit-corrupted majority. He unwisely endorsed Mitch McConnell over the much more conservative challenger Matt Bevin and got nothing in return.
Still, he does stand up and fight for the right causes on most occasions. Like Ted Cruz, Paul does not shy away from directly challenging the establishment when necessary. Both have filibustered to keep gun restrictions at bay and Paul has done a lot to try and stop the renewal of the Patriot act and block NSA domestic spying.
But of all the true conservative/libertarian candidates on the Right, Paul has some formidable obstacles to a successful campaign. In fact, there is significant evidence that his campaign is in disarray due to staff differences and lack of money. As Politico.com noted,
Senator Paul has raised significantly less than most major candidates, pulling in $6.9 million, including a $1.6 million transfer from his Senate committee. Affiliated super PACs have raised only $5 million. Meanwhile, Jeb Bush’s super PAC has raised $103 million, and Ted Cruz’s got over $37 million. By comparison, in the last two quarters of 2007, Ron Paul, who had literally zero percent name ID in early internal analyses, raised $25.2 million,
Ron Paul achieved that by a grass roots appeal to small donors. Rand could do that too if he’d take a more principled approach and stop compromising. That’s why his father’s followers are so loyal.
Dr. Paul also has some serious distractions with family problems. His wife reportedly is not supportive of his run for the president and much of that is due to a single problem son. As the Wonkette.com wrote,
Rand Paul’s son, Young Master William Hilton Heir of Rand And Ron Paul, has a bit of a problem. He just can’t stop getting drunk when he is not supposed to. Like, when he is underage. Or driving a vehicle… According to the citation, Lexington police found Paul at 11:24 a.m. sitting in the driver’s seat of a maroon 2006 Honda Ridgeline that had collided with a parked vehicle. The report said Paul was “belligerent” and had “a strong odor of alcohol,” bloodshot eyes and slurred speech… Paul was charged at the hospital with DUI and failure to maintain required auto insurance. Why are we being so mean to Rand Paul’s dumb 22-year-old kid? It’s not just because he is majoring in “communications.” No, it’s because this is his THIRD TIME getting in trouble for unlawful boozing — before noon! — and being a jerk.
Inexcusably, Rand Paul failed to respond to an invitation to speak at my brother’s huge Freedom Fest convention in Las Vegas last week. Marco Rubio showed and so did Donald Trump to a packed audience of 2800 people. Every network camera was rolling to film more outlandish statements by Trump so they can have ammunition to bash the conservative position.
These kinds of campaign failures are hurting Sen. Paul in the polls—and the establishment would love to see Paul ousted from the debates. In the latest NBC News/Marist poll, Paul’s support in New Hampshire has declined from 14% to 4%. If that trend continues, he’ll be out of the running soon.
Despite some compromises disappointing to hard line conservatives, Rand Paul is still very much a future force to be reckoned with now that the PTB are pushing liberals like Jeb Bush and Chris Christie. Rand Paul and Ted Cruz are the ones the establishment is out to beat.

Sadly, there are no uncompromising Ron Paul’s in the lineup this election season. While even the uncontrolled Republican candidates have their weak points (all except Rand Paul indirectly support the globalist policies of intervention), the establishment is sufficiently concerned about Cruz and Paul to pull out all the stops to see they don’t achieve the nomination. Still, it isn’t enough for me to support any of them. I don’t have confidence in any significant change unless a president-elect understands the globalist conspiracy we are up against.

CHINESE NAVAL PROJECTIONS BY 2020
More and more analysts are beginning to wake up about China—though our government continues to both criticize China and downplay and deny and threat. Prashanth Parameswaran writing for The Diplomat reports on China’s projected developments for their blue water navy by the year 2020—when I’ve predicted China will first begin to have the firepower to think about attacking the West.
Much has been written about China’s ongoing efforts to become what President Xi Jinping called a “great maritime power” and how the United States should respond… In a recent paper delivered at a two-day CNA conference on Chinese maritime power, seen by The Diplomat, Rear Admiral Michael McDevitt, a senior fellow at the Center for Naval Analyses (CNA), projects what China’s ‘far seas’ navy will look like in 2020 and how it would rank alongside the United States and other players – Britain, France, Japan, India and Russia. Getting a sense of the PLAN’s ‘far seas’ capabilities is important since it tells us the extent to which it might be able to project power further from China’s shores.
According to his projections, on paper by 2020 China’s navy will already increasingly look like a smaller version of the U.S. Navy and will be “the second most capable ‘far seas’ navy in the world.” In five years, the PLAN’s capabilities would dwarf most other navies – China would have as many aircraft carriers as Britain and India, more nuclear attack submarines than either Britain or France, and as many AEGIS-like destroyers as all the other non-US navies combined. China would have two aircraft carriers, 20-22 AEGIS like destroyers and 6-7 nuclear attack submarines, while United States would have eleven aircraft carriers; 88 AEGIS like destroyers; and 48 nuclear attack submarines.
Despite this, the US keeps helping the Chinese military train alongside the US in exercise after exercise. Alex Newman of The New American explains:
In 2013, the Obama administration shocked the world by inviting Communist Chinese troops to the United States to train with American forces for the first time in history. Ostensibly aimed at practicing “disaster management,” the U.S.-Communist China military exercises raised widespread alarm among national security experts. And while the Pentagon downplayed the risk and denied in comments to The New American that any weapons were involved, Chinese officials were boasting of “weapon demonstration, technique exchange, and cooperative action.” Earlier in 2013, a senior Chinese general, who in 2005 threatened to destroy hundreds of U.S. cities with nuclear weapons, led a “military exchange program” delegation to Washington, D.C. from Beijing.
The next year, again for the first time in history, Obama offered further opportunities for Chinese forces to gather sensitive intelligence on how the U.S. military works — this time by inviting Beijing’s Navy to participate in the “RIMPAC war games.” Hosted off the American coast by the U.S. Pacific Command, RIMPAC is the largest multinational maritime exercise in the world. And by allowing the Chinese regime’s ships to participate, Beijing was able to gather important insight into the U.S. military’s “tactics, techniques and procedures” (TTPs), according to analysts. Beijing was invited again this year, even as it steps up its aggressive actions against U.S. Navy ships in international waters… Beijing is taking full advantage of the opportunities to learn about the U.S. military and how it operates, too.
The West is ever eager to placate China in order to keep the world asleep to the inevitable and lethal threat she presents. Incredibly, despite a record low snow season in China’s mountains (which normal disqualifies anyone bidding on the Winter Olympics),
IOC President Thomas Bach… announced to the world on Friday in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia that Beijing won the bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, making the Chinese capital the first city to host both summer and winter Olympics.
He said the IOC’s decision meant tremendous to China. “It is about 300 million people who are expected to benefit from the 2022 Winter Olympics. This awards us a great opportunity to promote winter sports among them. It will be a marvelous project, an everlasting legacy. It will be an unprecedented feat pulled off by China and IOC, ” he said.
Yes, a marvelous propaganda stunt on behalf of China—just as the Beijing Summer Olympics were. Hitler took similar advantage of the 1936 Olympics to showcase the glories of Nazism. The only upside to this kowtowing to China is that it almost certainly guarantees that China will not go to war with the West until she gains the full propaganda value of these Olympics in 2022. So, you have at least that much time to prepare. Don’t put it off, however; it can easily take 10 years just to get your garden and animal skills where you can produce (most) of your own food.
The Chinese stock markets continue to slide. Beijing’s amateurish but massive interventions in the markets have not paid off. Chinese shares suffered their biggest one-day drop in over eight years this week, but still the market is up 70% over last year, so it is just a bubble bursting, not a collapse. Part of the renewed downward slide is from investors discovering that China lied about its debt levels so local billionaires are liquidating their assets and shifting them to Western or other Asian markets.
