Alaska Sam’s Club Last Stand – No Waiting

Anchorage south location — back to ‘no waiting.’ For years, the Sam’s Club stores were dead compared to Costco. I often wondered how they could stay in business. Costco’s buyers are brilliant.

Costco Defeats Sam’s Club in Anchorage, Alaska — Closing for Good

I commented:

The only thing I’ll greatly miss from Sam’s closing is Ghirardelli dark chocolate chips, 60% cacao.

Costco doesn’t have *dark* chocolate chips; otherwise, Costco’s items are either the same or superior.
Costco also has lots of organic! Their buyers are brilliant! Costco really has their act together.

I’ve wondered for years how Sam’s could stay open, because the store was almost always nearly vacant, with only two registers open, and needed — myself only going there for a few items once in awhile.

Why Image Stabilization is Missing Inside Panasonic GH5S ?

I saw a Panasonic rep mention the heat sink reason in an interview a few years back, and my heart sank, concerned they would then forever abandon IBIS to get the best 4K video. Thankfully, they didn’t go that far.

As long as they don’t also do this on their cameras for stills, to which they need to add MULTI-ASPECT as well. PLEASE, Panasonic.

And they should promote multi-aspect harder, which they never have. Most people don’t know the great advantages, including artistic!

Multi-aspect should be in all mirrorless cameras. Sony is especially dropping the ball, keeping people stuck in 3:2.

Another of my NWA chiefs has passed on: Ed Habeger

Ed was one of my ‘chiefs’ at Northwest Airlines in Anchorage for decades. I had many unforgettable experiences with him.

Delta’s 747s, a vestige of Northwest’s heyday, will visit Minnesota for the final time

Sad. I worked many of these in Anchorage, especially the 747 freighters, which NWA retired in 2009. Hundreds of my 747 freighter photos are in my Cargo’s Last Stand category.

Delta’s 747s, a vestige of Northwest’s heyday, will visit Minnesota for the final time

DECEMBER 16, 2017

For two generations, Northwest took Minnesotans around the world — and brought the world to Minnesota — on the 747. But Delta is the last U.S. airline that flies the planes, and now it is retiring the last four in its fleet. …

From the start, the plane awed. The 747 was about twice the height and length of any other plane then, and it still towers over most airplanes today. The second deck that extended from the cockpit back over the first third of the plane gave it a hump that made the 747 instantly recognizable and inspired a nickname, the Whale. …

4 Types of People — ‘The Matrix’

(photo) At Elizabeth & Olof Carmel’s studio during Wine Country workshop 2012

I was having a lot more fun than it appears here. This was an awesome experience!

In the fall of 2012, I attended Mountain Light’s Wine Country photography workshop in northern California, taught by Elizabeth Carmel and Jerry Dodrill, with Olof Carmel sometimes helping — loved that!!!

Here Olof is sharing his wisdom in their upstairs studio. I’m on the right, checking the image I just took with my RX100 pocket camera.

Jerry posted this privately on his Facebook page on Dec. 2, 2012, saying:

We had a great visit to Elizabeth Carmel’s studio today for a demo on fine art printing.

[Timesaver Tip!] Speed up MP3 audio or video incrementally in QuickTime using Option+Click (Pitch stays the same!)

This looks like a good method of listening to MP3 audio at a higher speed. It’s a bit of a hassle, because the files have to be downloaded first, and then opened in QuickTime, but it’s wonderful being able to speed up slow moving audio!

(vid) Camera Showdown: iPhone 7 vs Advanced Compact | How Far Have Smartphone Cameras Come?

I’ve carried a Panasonic LX100 in a belt pouch for 2.5 years. It’s awkwardly large for a compact camera, but the lens is very sharp, and it has the multi-aspect ratio sensor, capable of shooting in 4:3, 3:2 and 16:9 aspect ratios with full field of view and maximum megapixels. I love multi-aspect, but the LX100 is a tank to always carry. Many would prefer the also very capable, and much smaller and lighter, 1″ sensor compacts.

Glee! Google Set NIK Free — Hallelujah!!!!!!!

This is a great day! Google broke my heart when they killed my favorite photo software. Now they have released their death grip, and will now allow U-Point technology to live on, developed by brilliant Germans.

My prayers have been answered!!!

It’s been a long wait.

Happy!

Trumpeter Swans High Above Our Home : )

A group of about 20 trumpeter swans was just now flying high above our house, circling and trumpeting.

First, one broke off, by himself, heading in the direction towards Potter Marsh, one of their favorite places. Who knows what that was all about.

And it looked like the others were splitting up into a few groups, going in separate directions before I couldn’t see them anymore, blocked by the tall birch trees.

Many believe this all evolved by chance; though, it’s miraculous — a sight to behold!

Without TRUTH there can be no FREEDOM — Do not condescend to the Scoffers, rather ASCEND BOLDLY with your sure words of enduring Truth

When one chooses the path of Truth it often leads to a lonely place. The Truthteller, scorned, and derided as ‘extremist,’ even ‘insane’ must March Forward to the Certain, Clarion call that echos from the heart.

The more decadent the day, the more lonely the walk for Ambassadors of Truth.

However in the end all that will endure is Truth. And those who dare speak it become the legacies of their family lineage, their communities, and yes, even to their Nations.

Do not condescend to the Scoffers, rather ASCEND BOLDLY with your sure words of enduring Truth.

Eternity is kind to Truthtellers, and your Children will be your Truth’s Beneficiary.
