When Cesar (on the left) would teach us his specialized pallet building techniques, he would often say: “that’s how we do it in L.A..”* We could then pass on this knowledge to others, which knowledge will now…?
Here, he and John are just putting the icing on the cake.
* L.A. is an originating station which builds up many pallets every day; whereas, Anchorage is mainly a crossload cargo hub that moves freight between the freighters that fly between the lower-48 and Asia.

I was actually just thinking what a blessing it is to hear
Peni’s voice and ukulele cheer up our breakroom —
somewhat counteracting the blare of the TV.
So I captured the moment
without leaving my chair.
What a man!

I know what I’m thinking…
The FedEx logo too often reminds me of how the Federal Reserve Bank is as federal as Federal Express. Neither are federal, but they bear the name still. Legal — but ethical???
And look at FedEx‘s paint scheme. Scheme is the proper word: red-orange, white and blueish purple. Cool or subtle con?
And then there is UPS. Ever confuse UPS with USPS when you’re sending a package? One’s federal and one isn’t at all. Just coincidence or a carefully crafted con? Carefully crafted con.
And UPS trucks and planes use a color very similar to United States military drab. Coincidence, wise marketing or con(fidence) job?
And what’s so united about United Parcel Service (clearly from United States)? Like what’s so united about United Airlines, with their red, white and blue paint scheme (sometimes they now add grey)? Are they any more united than American Airlines? Oops!
American Airlines’ paint scheme can’t be overtly red, white and blue too?
United they stand; Northwest we fall.

Tech Note:
Most of the photos so far at this site were shot in RAW with the compact Canon G10 (including Our Resident Eaglet, by the way). This is an amazing camera, but has one major weakness: the otherwise handy control dials move way too easily. I have to always remember to check to make sure that they haven’t moved each time I take it out of the case. This time I didn’t.
The resulting tiny JPEG still works mostly well enough for a shot this size, but if I had shot instead in the 15 MP RAW format, the blown highlights would have had more detail, and I could have zoomed in on the running paragliders and included that crop as well.

We have a bald eagle who oversees our NWA cargo operation every single day, here in Anchorage, Alaska. How blessed are we!
She (I think it’s the mom) is sitting on her craggy perch, just behind me as I’m photographing her chick. I’ll post photos of her, later.
The Delta 757 just happened to be the plane coming — seriously. Delta is our new owner who is phasing out our entire 747 freighter operation this year.

I was watching the Tour de France’s team time-trial at midnight, when I heard something run by outside. One of these moose calves was galloping all over our yard.
We get many moose visitors, but this is the first time I’ve seen (and heard) one this active.
They didn’t stick around long (but did come back later). Here is their exit.
