Darryl Cooper: When you think about Christianity, the hardest command in Christianity, well, the hardest command in any world religion that’s ever been made, is “love your enemy.” To be able to recognize that somebody is your enemy—that their interests are fundamentally contradictory to yours, and that you have to be prepared to defend your interests, but not allow that to escalate to hatred for this creature of God that’s across from you—I mean, that’s something that is built very deeply into our hearts. …

Tucker Carlson: And that’s not just some random line in the New Testament. That’s a repeated command from Jesus. Repeated. He goes on about it: “And if you only love those who love you, how are you different from the pagans?” That’s easy.

Cooper: And we have no excuse to use particular circumstances as an excuse when He gave us the example and prayed for the people who were in the process of crucifying Him. So we have no excuse to allow that to build up in our hearts, and we have to fight it. Very often, you can survive a war physically—you can even win a war—and still have it do so much spiritual damage to you over time that the victory is hollow.

Tucker: I’m from a country that did that, so I’m aware. You end the war by nuking a population, and then you never apologize for it and pretend it was the right thing when it’s prima facie repulsive. And look what happens to your society when you do that.
